Children
Kohala Aikikai Children's classes are for ages 6 - 8. These are
viewed mostly as "aikido readiness" classes where children learn
basic movement skills and ethical principles through traditional
aikido exercises, games, and stories.
Juniors
Kohala Aikikai Juniors classes are for ages 9 - 12. conditioning
exercises and movement drills are introduced to create a solid
foundation for future growth. Aikido techniques, concepts, and
weapons work are revealed.
Basic
Basic class is on Tuesday and Thursday 5:30 - 6:30 PM. This class is
open to beginners as a transition to more rigorous training as well
as those who want to stick with the basics. Teenagers and older
adults welcome.
General
General classes are for adults and teens of any level. Here you will
progress at your own pace in the company of others that are at
various stages of their training. Aikido recognizes the value and
validity of every point along the path.
Advanced
Advanced classes are for adults 3rd kyu and up. Here we will explore
more complex and dynamic encounters and techniques. A mix of
increased intensity, weapons, multiple attackers, changing
techniques, and more.
Weapons
Weapons classes are for adults 5th kyu and up. Many of the roots of
aikido are deeply connected with the use and ultimately the
disarming of weapons. Distance, angles, timing, and the movement of
power through the body are all clarified through weapons practice.
Iaido
Members may train in iaido at Sensei's invitation only. The
traditional Japanese art of drawing, cutting, and returning the live
blade sword contribute to focus and coordination of the mind and
body.
Dues
Dues
are due on the first of each month, or can be paid quarterly or
annually. Dues are paid for club membership, which entitles you to
attend as many classes as you are eligible for. A leave of absence
can be granted for periods longer than one month, but must be
applied for in advance.
Since the main purpose of our dojo is to teach and learn aikido, we
offer assistance by way of scholarships, work-study, or fee
reductions for those needing assistance. We want to make this
valuable information available to all people, regardless of their
financial situation.
Instructors offer their services free of charge, and dues are used
exclusively to pay rent, maintain facilities, and supplement
operational expenses for special events.
